Places to Visit in Jaipur
Jaipur also known as the historic city founded in the 1727 AD by the great Kacchawah ruler Sawai Jai Singh II( a great builder, poet and astronomer). Initially, his capital was Dausa, which lies 51 km from Jaipur. The city which is rectangular in shape and divided into nine blocks laid down on the principles of “Shilpa Shastra”.
The rectangular blocks also called the “chokris”. All the monuments of Jaipur are centrally located in and around the city. The city is also called the “Pink City”. Pink City came into existence on the classical principles of Vastu Shastra and similar classical treatises.
Jaipur is a royal city and one gets to see palaces, temples and other interesting places some of the have to visit places in Jaipur are Hawa Mahal also known as the palace of winds as the name suggests which was designed for the ladies of the royal household by Sawai Pratap Singh which kept them updated about the on goings in the public as well as helped them stay away from the public eye.
Amber Fort and Shitla Mata temple situated in the north of Jaipur built by Maharaja Man Singh which gives you a perfect picture of Rajput architecture which overlooks a lake that reflects several terraces and the pavilions. Amber is famous for its spectacular Sheesh mahal, Jai mandir, Diwan-i-Am, Sikh Niwas and the Kali temple.
Jaigarh Fort built by Sawai Jai Singh which is till date in a very good shape which has a giant mounted cannon the Jai Ban which is supposed to be the largest in the country. The considerably huge walls also known as the parkotas, watch towers of Jaigarh are the ones to watch out for.
Jantar Mantar which is also supposed to be one of the most important places which was built by Jai Singh II a great astronomer which is the best preserved observatory that has instruments through which the astronomers could measure the position of stars and calculate the eclipses. The other places that are worth paying a visit are City palace which is a historic landmark of the city. The carved arches, that are supported by grey and white marble columns studded with golden motifs and colored stones and especially the entrance which has two elephants carved in marble which guard the entrance is a spectacular site to see. The palace has a museum which has a huge collection of variety of dresses, fascinating armory of mughal and rajput weapons, swords of all shapes and handles which is very fascinating to see .
Jal Mahal situated in the middle of a small lake and this was supposed to be the hunting lodge for the Rajputs and this can be viewed only from the banks of this lake which is a man made . Laxmi Narayan Temple situated in the southern horizon is a privately owned hilltop fort of Moti Doongari shaped like a scottish castle built in sparkling white marble , and other place like Govind Devji Temple, Albert Hall, B M Birla Planetarium are also worth visiting. The best and the most convenient way to get to these places is to hire a cab which would make it much more easier and will help one save time.
Getting to Jaipur especially from places like Mumbai and Delhi is not difficult at all because one can easily get to the Jaipur city by air, rail as well as road.
There are several domestic flights available from places like Delhi, Mumbai, Calcutta.
The train service is available from several parts of the country like Luknow, Chennai, Ahmedabad apart from Mumbai and Delhi.
